Pastor Lynn Bond

Lynn grew up in Jal, New Mexico, a small oilfield town in the southeastern corner of the state, where he experienced cultural diversity and a home environment where church was very important. After High School graduation, Lynn attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College to prepare for Christian ministry, receiving a B.S. in Pastoral Ministry and Evangelism. He then spent ten years of pastoral ministry with the Assemblies of God (New Mexico, Texas and Arkansas). He was ordained with the Assemblies of God in 1985 and was elected presbyter in the Arkansas District Council of the Assemblies of God in 1987.

Leaving Arkansas in the fall of 1989, a variety of experiences led Lynn to explore other paths within the Christian tradition. In 1995, Lynn and his family joined the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He began pursuit of a life-long dream: finishing seminary and obtaining a Ph.D. In 1998, Lynn received his M. Div. from Phillips Theological Seminary graduating summa cum laude; afterward, his ordination was reaffirmed in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Acceptance into the Ph.D. program at the University of Loyola in Chicago led Lynn and his family to Dixon, Illinois and First Christian Church. At the present, Lynn is completing four years of ministry at First Christian Church.

Lynn's wife, Patti is a teacher's aid at Lincoln Elementary School. They have three sons. Colin, age 20, is Lance Corporal in the US Marines and stationed at Camp Pendleton. He recently returned home from a seven-month deployment to the Arabian Sea and participation in Operation Enduring Freedom. Kel, age 17, is entering his Senior year at Dixon High School and is active in Cross Country and Track. He recently represented the State of Illinois in the "Parkroyal Down Under International Games" in Australia. Jonathan, age 11, is entering the 6th grade at Reagan Middle School. He is active in a variety of sports including swimming. He recently represented the Dixon Dolphins at the Illinois meet placing second in two events and fifth in another; he recently qualified to represent the Sterling Stingrays at the Junior Olympics in the 50 and 100 meter backstroke.

Lynn's specific program of studies at Loyola is New Testament and Christian Origins. His primary area of interest is Pauline Literature. His secondary field of studies is the Dead Sea Scrolls. He will take his comprehensive exams in the fall. Currently, he is preparing an article for publication on the "Formal Aspects of the Interpretation of Scripture in the Damascus Document. Otherwise, he enjoys movies, reading (what is not "required"), coffee at "Books on First," cooking and the company of friends. Lynn is completing six years of service at the First Christian Church.
